SPECIAL MEETING!

Planning Commission Work Session

PROPOSAL FOR NEW LEGISLATION

Thursday, Dec. 9, 1:30 PM.
Government Office Building, Room 301
Salisbury, MD
25 N. Division Street

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the open-air tank legislation changes developed by the Planning and Zoning office. From this discussion they will make recommendations to the County Council on what the legislation should contain. Several members of NAG and others offered their comments during the open period last month and hopefully they will take our concerns and ideas under consideration. (Read about these changes on the "P&Z Meetings and Hearings Update post on this blog.)

The public will not have the opportunity to make comments on Thursday but attending the meeting will show our continued support for the removal of the tank on Porter Mill Road and our demand for strong restrictions on open-air tanks.

After the Planning and Zoning recommendations are finalized, the proposal will be sent to members of the County Council who will then accept, reject or change the legislation.
The council extended the moratorium on new tank construction for another 6 months. NAG is grateful for this because we believe new legislation, with significant restrictions, should be in place before new tanks can be proposed. Even though the moratorium does not immediately begin the removal of our neighborhood tank, we are greatly concerned by Valley Protein's request to expand their Linkwood facility and increase their daily output FOUR FOLD. That means there will be more demand for storage. Without strong legislation in place, there is nothing to stop the construction of another tank going up on the site where the current tank is located or near homes around the county.

We all need to be there on Thursday to see what direction the Planning Commision is going so we can begin to lobby the County Council again if the new legislation is not favorable to us.

We call on all concerned Wicomico County citizens to attend this important meeting to stand with us. We can't do this alone! Your welfare is also at stake!

NAG is still fighting for all citizens of Wicomico County and must pay its legal bills. We need you to step up and support NAG!

Contributions to the Neighborhood Action Group should be sent to:
